Homemade Pita

Thursday July 10, 2008
Pita on the Tabun OvenSince there are no after-school activities and is no homework to prepare, summer evenings have become a wonderful opportunity for my family to relax together. As the day draws to an end, we like to sit together outside and enjoy a lite dinner. Our favorite menu is the classic Israeli menu - pita, hummus, eggs, cheese, salads, and fresh fruit or melon for dessert.

While we generally buy our pita bread, on special evenings we get out the tabun (outdoor oven) and let the kids make their own pita. The dough is very easy to prepare, and the kids love to work with it. The pita can be baked in a regular oven at 500° F (260° C).
