Kosher in Beijing

Friday August 8, 2008
"Athletes and tourists in Beijing for the Summer Olympics will have plenty of kosher food," reports JTA. China's only independently-owned kosher restaurant, Dini's Restaurant, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the Games. Dini's offers a complete selection of Jewish food, Chinese food, Western food, as well as a sushi bar. While I will only be in Beijing in spirit, I love knowing that I would be able to eat well if I did go in body too.

I dont know if it could be called kosher if it is open 24/7, i think shabbos is more important than feeding the masses!!

Hi FFB! They must prepare the Shabbat food before Shabbat begins. The article says they are serving a special Shabbat meal after services in the morning. Cheers, Giora

But they still sell the food on Shabbat. How can the food be kosher?
It’s like Maoz Restaurant in New York has a certificate from an orthodox rabbi that the restaurant is Kosher but they are opened Saturday, how can they be kosher?

Dont be so foolish and naive, the restaurant is a fully functioning glatt kosher restaurant, it will be open 24 hours a day and for shabbos lunch and friday night dinner hosted by chabad at the restuarant
Dont always be so quick to critisize!

You are allowed to serve food on Shabbat. You just can’t turn electricity on and off in preparing the food, and you can’t use money. So I assume that they sell tickets for Shabbat meals before Shabbat begins. The food is ready and is just being reheated on a pre-set electric food warmers. In addition, the workers are not Jewish.
Cheers,
Giora
