Chocolate Chip Mandelbrot
Monday September 22, 2008
Today my eight-year-old daughter and I decided to make cookies to freeze and serve during the Rosh Hashanah holiday. We made Chocolate Chip Mandelbrot. The problem is that everyone keeps sneaking into the kitchen so not many cookies will make it into the freezer.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know about a very well known tradition: on Rosh Hashana we dont eat nuts, because their numerical value equals that of the word for sin. We try to keep away for anything to do with sins on the great day of judgment
Very interesting. I have never heard of that tradition. Do you know the source of it? Thanks for sharing.
Shana Tova,
Giora
I am not sure if there is a real source (like in the torah) but it is a minhag-tradition which has been passed on for many generations. Maybe you have never heard of it because you are sefardic? even sefardim have many customs, like not to eat fish on rosh hashana or eat things that are black. All these traditions are formed to stay away from evil or things that might represent it. I’m sure any rabbi would know about most well known traditions like these i have mentioned. Shana tova!
