Chocolate Icing (Parve)

I used to make a cake and then find I lacked the powdered sugar needed to make the icing. Now, thanks to this recipe, I'm always able to glaze my cakes. Water, cocoa, sugar, margarine and vanilla extract is all that is needed to make this delicious parve Chocolate Icing.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 22 minutes


  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cocoa, unsweetened, parve
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons margarine, parve
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces (50 grams) semi-sweet chocolate, parve


1. Combine water, cocoa and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, lower heat, and then simmer for 10-12 minutes.
2. Remove from heat.
3. Stir in margarine, vanilla and chocolate. Stir vigorously until all ingredients are combined and the icing is slightly thickened.
4. Spread on cooled cake.

Well, this is the 2nd time around so that says it all! I used this recipe, remembered how much my family liked it and went looking for it again...hmm, maybe it's time to print it... Good stuff! Thanks :-)
