The Bottom Line

We tend to feel constrained by Passover’s strict food restrictions. And we tend to feel heavy at the week’s end from all the matzah, eggs, potatoes and meat eaten. Thus, Tamar Ansh’s “anything’s possible” attitude, which pervades her cookbook A Taste of Tradition: Pesach - Anything's Possible!, is wonderfully refreshing and helpful. Just holding the beautiful book of possibilities in my hands, I feel relief. And opening the book to browse through the diverse selection of kosher for Passover recipes, I feel liberated, which happens to be the perfect state of mind for celebrating the Exodus.

Guide Review - A Taste of Tradition: Pesach - Anything's Possible!, by Tamar Ansh

A Taste of Tradition: Pesach - Anything's Possible! by Tamar Ansh is just that. A taste of traditional Jewish food, with an anything’s possible attitude about what can be prepared for Passover.

This book is an obvious gem for anyone who is kosher observant and on a gluten-free diet. It offers over 350 kosher, gluten-free recipes. Traditional Jewish recipes, including gefilte fish, potato blintzes, and mock chopped liver, are presented. And many of the book’s more contemporary recipes also have Jewish flavor to them, such as Rebbetzin Meisel’s Apple Blintz Kugel, Beet Latkes, and Cocoa Blintz Pie.

For others, this book offers a wonderful variety of kosher for Passover recipes. It is a great help to be reminded that during the week of Passover, when we generally feel limited to a diet of meat and potatoes, that indeed “anything’s possible.” From Mango, Avocado, and Lettuce Salad to Cinnamon Pumpkin Soup, from Tangy Chicken Wings to Turkey and Wine Roast, from Butternut Squash Kugel to Spinach and Cheese Frittata, and from Lemon Meringue Pie to Kiwi Ice, with such diverse dishes, you’re likely to forget its Passover!

The book is pleasingly aesthetic, with appetizing photos, pretty colors, and clear print. For the many who feel stressed by Passover’s demands, opening this beautiful book, rich with possibilities, can be calming.

Simpler versions of recipes might have been appreciated by cooks who user fewer utensils and ingredients during Passover. And introductory remarks before each recipe would have been a nice addition. More fish recipes would have been welcome too.

Overall, not only will A Taste of Tradition: Pesach - Anything's Possible! make your Passover tastier and healthier, but it will provide you with a wonderful selection of kosher, gluten-free recipes for the whole year.
