Guide Review - Kosher by Design: Kids in the Kitchen, by Susie Fishbein

Susie Fishbein's cookbook, Kosher by Design: Kids in the Kitchen, does the impossible. The book enables parents to spend fun, quality time with their children and still put a tasty and healthy dinner on the table.

My favorite part of the book is the photography, which says "look what you can make!" to kids. The book's clear instructions and organized layout make it a pleasure to use. And I was thrilled to see recipes for real food. Since kids are most likely to eat what they make, using this book is a great way to encourage picky eaters to try new food.

My favorite recipes are French Onion Soup with Cheese Toasts, Steak Fajitas, Chicken Pot Pie, Zesty Chicken, Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein, and Stuffed Baked Potatoes.

My fifteen-year-old daughter, who tends to shy away from cooking, made the Meatballs with Brown Sauce all by herself. The meatballs turned out to be delicious, which added to her confidence in the kitchen.

The Meringue Surprise Kisses that I made with my six-year daughter were the best meringue cookies I ever made. Yael especially liked using a plastic bag to squeeze the meringue into circles on the cookie sheets. And she absolutely loved serving the "kisses" to her big brothers.

If you want to encourage and teach your children to cook, this is the cookbook to buy. An added bonus is that adults can use the book to make quick, easy and kosher family meals.
