Hungarian Cheese Spread

Giora Shimoni
We had the pleasure of eating at our friend Meira's house for Shavuot. For the first course, she served gazpacho soup as well as a variety of cheese spreads with crackers. Among the various cheeses, there was this amazing Hungarian cheese spread. My son loved it so much that she packed some up for him to take home.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (500 grams) Israeli white cheese (gvina levana) or softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1-2 scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon dried sweet paprika
  • pinch of dried hot paprika (optional)
  • salt to taste

Preparation:

1. Mix cheese with onion and spices.
2. Store, covered, in the refrigerator.

Serving Suggestions: Serve with fresh bread or crackers.

Tip: If you prefer Gvina Levana to softened cream cheese, see this recipe for Homemade Gvina Levana.
